Jared Showalter Named SIAC Pitcher Of The Week

ATLANTA, Ga.– Savannah State right-hander Jared Showalter was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced in a press release Wednesday afternoon.
 
Showalter pitched Savannah State to a 3-0 win over reigning SIAC Champions Spring Hill on Saturday.
 
The redshirt senior worked a full 7.0 innings, pitching a one-hit shutout, walking two and recording five strikeouts against 23 batters. He improved to 3-0 on the season and leads the pitching staff with a 0.53 ERA and .35 WHIP in 17.0 innings pitched this season.
 
Kentucky State's Joseph Esparza was named the SIAC Player of the Week. Esparza helped KSU to a 3-1 record last week against Edward Waters and Ashbury. The junior infielder finished 9-for-17 (.529 batting average) over four games for the Thorobreds collecting four doubles, two home runs, one triple, and 13 RBIs.
 
Savannah State baseball travels to Frankfort, Kentucky this weekend to face Kentucky State in a three-game conference series. They play March 4 at 12 p.m. and March 5 at 12 p.m.
 
The Tigers return home on March 7 for a nonconference, mid-week game with Claflin. First pitch at Tiger Baseball Field is set for 3 p.m.
