SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) held their 2023 Basketball Media Day on October 17 and the Savannah State men's basketball team was picked to finish third in the SIAC Eastern Division.
The event was held at EnMarket Arena.
The preseason rankings are voted on by the SIAC head coaches and sports information directors.
The Tigers were picked behind Benedict, who was predicted to win the SIAC East, and Morehouse, who was predicted to finish in second place.
Clark Atlanta was picked to finish fourth in the SIAC East followed by Fort Valley State, Albany State,Edward Waters and Allen.
Miles was picked to capture the SIAC Western Division. Expected to finish behind Miles is Tuskegee, LeMoyne-Owen, Lane, Kentucky State, Central State and Spring Hill.
Savannah State finished last season with a 15-11 record while going 13-8 in conference play and earned a number two seed entering the SIAC Tournament. SSU earned a first round bye in the tournament and lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion, Benedict 78-68.
The Tigers were 11-1 at home last season.
The 2023-24 SSU schedule features 12 home dates.
Set to begin his 20th campaign as the Tigers head coach, Horace Broadnax and company will start the season on the road with non-conference match ups with Florida Southern (November 10) and St. Leo (Nov. 11). Both Florida Southern and St. Leo compete in the Sunshine Conference.
