Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers Cruise Past Lane College

SAVANNAH, Ga.— Savannah State men's basketball opened Wednesday's game against Lane College with a 15-5 run en-route to 65-55 win in Tiger Arena.

The Tigers improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) schedule. Lane dropped to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in SIAC action.

The early run from the Tigers continued unabated down the stretch. At the half, they led 34-18. They managed a 46.6% clip from the field in the first half, dropping 13-of-28 attempts. Leading the charge was Eleik Bowles who had 19 points by the end of the first 20 minutes.

Early in the second half, SSU maintained their double-digit advantage for the first 10 minutes. But Lane slipped back into the game. Over a two-minute span, they opened an 11-2 run to cut the Tigers' lead to 50-46 with 7:44 to play.

But Za'Khari Cobb squashed the run with a 3-pointer and Bowles followed that with a good field goal. Lane wasn't done, however, responding with good baskets to cut Savannah State's lead to 55-52 with 4:24 to play.

The SSU defense stepped up in the final four minutes holding Lane to only three points in the final minutes.

Bowles led the field with 27 points on the night. Larshon Ashford and Ayjay Plain each scored nine in the win while Cobb put away seven. It was the third straight win for the Tigers.
