Tigers Surge Past Clark Atlanta With Strong Second Half

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State men's basketball powered past Clark Atlanta on Monday with a strong second half to pick up their 10th win of the season.

The Tigers improved to 10-5 overall and 8-3 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action. They continue to lead the SIAC East Division.

At the half on Monday, the Tigers led by a single point, 29-28, after shooting 32.1% from the floor. Clark managed just a bit better, each team hitting only nine field goals each.

Eleik Bowles opened the second half with a good three-pointer to spark an 8-2 run for the Tigers. But it wasn't a runaway at first, as the Panthers answered SSU's early run and kept the game close for the opening three minutes.

Bowles again drained a good three-pointer at 8:13 mark and Chancellor Wilson followed with a a good field goal and two good free-throws to put SSU up by double-digits. The monster effort in the  second half would hold down the stretch as the Tigers fanned off the Panthers for a big 62-55 road win.

The Tigers improved their shooting in the second half, managing a 59.1% clip from the floor. Bowles led the team with 35 points on the night, going 13-for-21 from the field and 5-for-8 from deep. Ayjay Plain had 10 points in the win for his seventh game of the season in double figures.

Savannah State returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 21, when they host Edward Waters in Tiger Arena. Tip-off for the men's and women's SIAC doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
