SSU Beats Albany State To Extend Winning Streak

SAVANNAH, Ga.— Savannah State extended their win streak to five and their home court record to 7-0 on Monday with a 55-44 win over Albany State in Tiger Arena.

The Tigers improved to 9-4 overall. In the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) schedule, Savannah State leads the East Division with a 7-2 record. Albany State dropped to 3-12 overall and 3-6 in SIAC.

The three-win Albany State team didn't open the game like a three-win team. The Golden Rams started out with an 8-2 run for an early lead against Savannah State.

But the Tigers found their footing, getting a spark from Larson Ashford who drained a field goal at the 16:34 mark to start a 16-2 run and give SSU a double-digit advantage. By the half, SSU led 32-16.

In the second half, Albany State would only get within nine points of SSU's lead, as the Tigers maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the 20 minutes, going up by as much as 18.

Eleik Bowles led Savannah State with 15 points on the night. Ayjay Plain scored nine while Andrew Okorodudu put away eight.

The Tigers hit the road for two games this weekend in Atlanta. They face Morehouse College on Jan. 14 and then trot next door to Clark Atlanta on Jan. 16. They return to Tiger Arena on Jan. 21, to host Edward Waters.
