SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State opens the 120th year of football today against Southeastern University.

This will be the first meeting between Savannah State and Southeastern (NAIA). Today also opens the Aaron Kelton era. Coach Kelton was hired in April following the departure of Shawn Quinn last December.

Kelton hopes to build on the three successful years of the Quinn era. After rejoining the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) ahead of the 2019 season, the Tigers went 10-1 in conference play.

The Tigers hit the road for three consecutive weeks after today's home opener. They return to Theodore A. Wright on Oct. 1 for an SIAC game against Kentucky State.

Today's non-conference game will test a new squad of players that is comprised of about 48% new student-athletes and 52% returners. It also be the first showcase of a new offense. The Tigers will trade the old-school option for a more pro-style configuration this year.

On the sidelines, will be a new army of assistant coaches that have over 50 years of coaching experience combined—including experience at FBS and FCS NCAA Division I schools.
