Football Set To Open Fall Camp

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State football will open a new era this week when  players return to campus and open fall camp under the guidance of first-year head coach Aaron Kelton.
 
The Tigers will report this week and open fall camp on Friday, August 5. Fall camp will open to the general public and media on Monday, August 8.
 
Kelton has scheduled practices to run six days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with the Tigers taking Monday's off once classes start on August 15.
 
Savannah State kicks off the 2022 season on September 3 at Theodore A. Wright Stadium against Southeastern University. Tickets are on sale now, exclusively at ssuathletics.com/tickets.
 
The Tigers will have a 90-man roster for the fall camp out of the over 120 student-athletes on the preseason roster, including 57 returners from the 2021 squad that finished 8-2.
 
This will be Savannah State's third year of competition at the NCAA Division II level and in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) after rejoining both ahead of the 2019 season.
 
Despite finishing second overall last season in the SIAC East Division, the Tigers were voted in a preseason poll to finish third in the division this year behind Benedict and reigning SIAC champions Albany State.
