ATLANTA, Ga.— Just weeks before Savannah State football reports for fall camp, the program will be well represented at the 2022 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Media Day set for July 13 in Atlanta, Ga.

Head Coach Aaron Kelton, offensive lineman Kyle Frazier and defensive end Makenly Newbill will take center stage for the Tigers at the College Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Interviews, beginning at 10:50 a.m. will be streamed live via the SIAC YouTube Page.
Coach Kelton is scheduled to be interviewed at 11:40 a.m.

In his first year at Savannah State, Kelton has inherited a team who earned the first eight win season in nearly three decades last year and has registered only a single conference loss since rejoining the SIAC in 2019.

Kelton will have 57 returners from last year's squad and around 50 newcomers. The preseason roster is loaded with talent, over 129 names, that will get pared down before the opening game on Sept. 2 against Southeastern University.

Though the Tigers lost more than half their starters to graduation, almost every position has returned the backups—now veteran guys with strong stats from last year ready to earn their starting role on the team.

Frazier finished the 2021 season as a starter on the offensive line. He was named to the All-SIAC Second Team. He became a key component of the second best rushing offense in the SIAC and 19th best in NCAA Division II. The Tigers averaged 303.4 yards of total offense during the 2021 season outscoring their opponents 284-176.

In his first year at Savannah State, Newbill—a Valdosta State transfer and Savannah native— earned a starting role on the Tiger defense. Newbill helped lead the No. 2 best defense in the SIAC and No. 12 best defense in Division II with 22.5 tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss, 1.0 sacks and 6 quarterback hurries. Savannah State boasted the No. 3 best rushing defense in the SIAC, and were ranked No. 7 in sacks, holding opponents to only 17.6 points a game.
