Tennis Splits Non-Conference Home Bouts

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State women's tennis split two non-conference home matches this week.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers fell to Florida Southern 0-7. But they rebounded on Wednesday with a 6-1 win over Drew University.

In the first court of singles action against Drew, Gabrielle Benn defeated Melina Christodoulou in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1. In the second court, Amarlia Benn beat Mary Kalorin, 6-1 and 6-2.

Julia Ramos picked up a win in the third court, beating Sanne Bloemendaal 6-1 in the first set before Bloemendaal retired in the second set. Caitlyn Schultz beat Courtney Bresler in the fourth court in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1.

In the fifth court of singles, Sunzahra Banks beat Kate Gangi in a tie-breaker. Banks took the first set 6-0, but fell 4-6 in the second. Banks won 10-3 in the tiebreaker to claim the point. Bria Bembery fell to Danielle Delrosso in the sixth court, 0-6 and 1-6.

The Benn sisters fell in the first court of double actions to Christodoulou and Kalorin 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreaker score. Schultz and Ramos beat Bloemendaal and Gangi in the second court 6-1. Banks and Bembry cleaned up in the third court, defeating Delrosso and Taylor Dombalis 6-3.
