Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game To USCB

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State baseball dropped a non-conference home game to University of South Carolina Beaufort on Tuesday, 2-11.
 
The Sandsharks opened with a two-hit, one run first inning. Savannah State's Cameron Diaz singled in the bottom of the inning with two outs showing, but a flyout on the next at bat ended the chances of tying the game.  
 
USCB tacked on another run in the second and then four more in the third for a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the third. With two outs, Dwayne Franklin reached third after being walked. Andrai Wright scored him on a single to left for the Tigers first run of the game.
 
Through the middle innings, USCB added two runs in the fourth and then two more in the sixth. The Tigers managed a single run in the fifth, but were unable to score again, stranding three runners through the final three innings. The Sandsharks tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth for the final nine-point advantage.
 
The Tigers put up eight pitchers against USCB in the loss. Ricky McCleod was tagged with his first pitching loss after 2.0 innings of work. He allowed five earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts against 13 batters. Champion Robbins went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers to lead the offense.
 
USCB tossed seven pitchers at Savannah State through the contest. Tucker Dove picked up his first win of the season, going 2.0 innings. He allowed no runs on three hits with one walk and no strikeouts.
