SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State baseball hosts Embry-Riddle today in a non-conference break between back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series.

The Tigers are coming off a three-game sweep of Clark Atlanta this past weekend. With the wins, they improved to 15-5 on the season and 11-1 in conference—taking sole lead of first place in the SIAC East Division. The team was also voted into the No. 10 spot in the NCBWA South Region poll.

For his work on the mound in game one of the series against Clark, Jose Santiago was named the SIAC Pitcher of the Week yesterday.

Savannah State is led at the plate by Joseph Smith (.444), Champion Robbins (.405), Andrai Wright (.367) and Zion Roland (.344). Their deep bullpen is led by starters Jared Showalter (2.48 ERA) and Santiago (2.54). Reliever Jackson Hickox (3.27 ERA) has been instrumental in closing wins, pitching in nine games this season.

Embry-Riddle enters today's game off a 1-0 win against Grand Valley State on Monday that opened a string of five non-conference games. From the plate, the Eagles are led by Jeremy Kennedy-Davis (.380), Daniel Trillo (.316) and Zach Coldsnow (.306).

Starting pitcher Garrett Goodall (3.45 ERA) is 2-2 on the season while Connor Dunnam (7.82 ERA) is 0-2. Reliever Joe Balsam (3.27 ERA) is 2-0 after appearing in 10 games and Garner Spoljaric (2.14 ERA) is 2-0 with 10 appearances as well.

ABOUT SAVANNAH STATE BASEBALL
Savannah State baseball first took the field in 1916. For over 50 years, they played mostly club level baseball against semi-pro teams and non-college teams until the program joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in 1969. From 1969-199, the Tigers won over 200 games. The 1976-77 squad won the school's first conference championship, beating Bethune-Cookman for the SIAC baseball title. The Tigers won five consecutive SIAC Championships from 1995-1999. In 2013, after elevating to NCAA Division I, Savannah State baseball won the school's first Division I title, beating Bethune-Cookman in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship. Several Tigers have been drafted to play Major League Baseball.
