Tennis Picks Up Big Wins In The First SIAC Roundup

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State women's tennis closed out the first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) roundup on Friday with two wins and a loss.
 
The Lady Tigers opened the day with wins over Tuskegee (4-0) and Lane College (6-1). Against Tuskegee, Gabrielle Been defeated Mikiah Stephenson in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0, in the first court. The second, third and fourth courts went unfinished and Bria Brembry and Amarlia Benn each won the fifth and sixth courts, respectively, by default.
 
In doubles action, The Benn sisters beat Emperess Johnson and Malaika Toskes 6-1 in the first court. Julia Ramos and Caitlyn Schultz beat Stephenson and Landry Samuesl 6-1 in the third court. Sunzahra Banks and Bembery won the third court by default.
 
Against Lane College, Banks was beat by Sydney Jackson in the first court, 4-6 and 4-6. Bembery won the second court of singles play, defeating Britni Wilson in a third set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-4, 10-3. Sarah Joachim beat Hannah McFarlin in the third set, 6-0 and 6-0. The Benn sisters and Schultz won the fourth, fifth and sixth courts by default.
 
In doubles action, Banks and Bembery beat Jackson and Wilson 6-4. Joachim and Gabrielle Benn, and Amarlia Benn and Schultz won the second and third doubles courts by default.
 
In the final game of the day, Savannah State fell to Albany State, 2-4. Benn fell in the first court of singles to Doylisha Copeland, 2-6 and 1-6. Ramos fell to Asia Raulerson in the second court, 3-6 and 2-6. Amarlia Benn won the third court of singles, beating Allyah Williams in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-1.
 
The fourth court went unfinished. Banks fell to Carla Sorroche 0-6 and 1-6 in the fifth court while Sumana Panauganti defeated Bembery in the sixth court, 1-6 and 0-6.
 
The Benn sisters defeated Copeland and Williams in the first court of doubles action 6-2. Ramos and Schultz fell to Raulerson and Sorroche in the second court 3-6 and Banks and Bembery fell to Bianca Leo and Panauganti 2-6 in the third court.
 
Savannah State will play another SIAC Roundup in late March. In between, they will play five conference matches. They close the first SIAC Roundup with a 4-2 SIAC record and a 5-2 overall record.
