Tennis Wins Two On Day One of SIAC Roundup

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State women's tennis walked away with to wins on Thursday in the first day of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Roundup.
 
The Lady Tigers played three games on Thursday.
 
They opened at 8 a.m. with a 4-3 win against Clark Atlanta. In the singles court, Gabrielle Benn defeated Madison Moffatt in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3.
 
Amarlia Benn fell to Shani Idlette in the second court, 2-6 and 3-6. Cailtyn Schultz dropped the third court to Kristen Blount, 4-6 and 1-6. In the fourth court, Sunzahra Banks fell to Shereese Henry, 2-6 and 0-6. Bria Bembery and Sarah Joachim won the fifth and sixth courts by default.
 
In doubles action against Clark Atlanta, the Benn sisters fell to Moffatt and Henry in the first court, 4-6. Julia Ramos and Schultz beat Idlette and Blount 7-6. Bembery and Banks won the third court of doubles by default.
 
Savannah State blanked LeMoyne-Owen 4-0 in the second game of the day. In court one, Amarlia Benn beat Chido Chimbetete 6-1 in the first set and won the match after they called it quits in the second set with Benn leading 3-0.
 
Banks won the second court in singles action against Lar'Rie King. Banks won the first set 6-3. The second was unfinished. Bembery beat Braelyn Miller in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0 in the third court.
 
Joachim defeated Kike Okjo 6-1 in the first set of the fourth court and won the unfinished match. Schultz and Gabrielle Benn won the fifth and sixth courts by default.
 
Schultz and Banks beat King and Chimbetete in the first court of doubles action, 6-2. Bembery and Joachim defeated Odjo and Miller 6-0 in the second court. The Benn sisters won the third court of doubles by default.
 
In the final game of Thursday, Savannah State fell to Spring Hill College 2-4. Gabrielle Benn won the first court of singles action, defeating Jamie Martin 6-2 and 6-0. Amarlia Benn fell to MaryGrace Sullivan in the first set of second court, 2-6 and retired the second set.
 
Ramos beat Johanna Winkler in the third quarter, 6-2 and 7-5. Schultz fell to Nicole Barron in the fourth court, 0-6 and 1-6. Banks battled Kayley Groff in the fifth court through a tough tie-breaker. Banks won the first set 6-0, and fell 4-6 in the second set. Banks lost 0-1 (10-8) in the tiebreaking set.
 
The Benn sisters were trailing Winkler and Sullivan in the first court of doubles, 4-5, but the match went unfinished. Ramos and Schultz fell to Emmie Gage and Martin in the second court of doubles, 4-6. Banks and Bembery fell to Barron and Groff in the third court, 2-6.
 
The Lady Tigers will play Tuskegee and Lane College on Friday and then face Albany State and Benedict College on Saturday.
 
Savannah State is 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference.
