SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State baseball opens a three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series with LeMoyne-Owen College today on Tiger Field.

Coming of a 2-1 series win over Kentucky State last weekend, the Tigers will look to pad their SIAC schedule this weekend.

In their series, Savannah State and Kentucky State combined for 67 hits and 58 runs over three games. The Tigers scored at least 10 runs in each of the games. They saw some stellar work at the plate, but also from the mound.

Junior right-handed starter Enrico Peele earned his second pitching win of the season with a nearly flawless 6.0 innings of work as the Tigers shutout Kentucky State 11-0 in game two of the series.

At the plate, Phillip Woullard leads the Tigers, batting .467 with 11 RBI, 14 hits including three doubles and two triples. Dwayne Franklin is batting .393 this season and Champion Robbins is right behind him, batting .371.

LeMoyne-Owen enters the series after losing three games to Albany State in their last SIAC series. The Golden Rams put up at least 20 runs in all three games against LeMoyne-Owen.

The series will open on Friday with a doubleheader. The 12 p.m. game will be a nine-inning game followed at 3 p.m. by a seven-inning game. On Saturday, at 12 p.m., the teams will play a nine-inning game to close out the series.

Friday's doubleheader will be streamed live on FloSports. Saturday's game will not be streamed live.

ABOUT SAVANNAH STATE BASEBALL
Savannah State baseball first took the field in 1916. For over 50 years, they played mostly club level baseball against semi-pro teams and non-college teams until the program joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in 1969. From 1969-199, the Tigers won over 200 games. The 1976-77 squad won the school's first conference championship, beating Bethune-Cookman for the SIAC baseball title. The Tigers won five consecutive SIAC Championships from 1995-1999. In 2013, after elevating to NCAA Division I, Savannah State baseball won the school's first Division I title, beating Bethune-Cookman in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship. Several Tigers have been drafted to play Major League Baseball.
