SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State baseball opens a three-game home series with Salem University today on Tiger Field. The Tigers will play two 7-inning games today and one 9-inning game on Friday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on both days.

Savannah State is looking to rebound following two losses to Bryant & Stratton in their last three-game home series. The Tigers opened that series with an 8-2 win, but dropped both of the next day's twinbill.

The Tigers deep bullpen will get some good work this week.

Newcomer Jose Santiago will start in game one today with veteran righthander Enrico Peele starting game two. Santiago has a 0.00 ERA and one pitching win after throwing 6.0 innings against Bryant & Stratton. Peele had a rough start to the season in the last home series. He pitched 2.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on one hit with five walks and one strikeout.

In relief, Rahmir Vaughn, Solomon Masters, Matthew Terrill and Jackson Hickox will see time on the mound in this week's series. Hickox has been a strong reliever for the Tigers, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Dwayne Franklin leads Savannah State at the plate following 10 at bats so far this season. He's registered four hits and three runs, batting .400 to open the season. Phillip Woullard is right behind Franklin in the stats with a .364 average after 11 at bats. New catcher Omar Almodovar has also been key for the Tigers on offense. He's batting. 333 with three hits on nine plate appearances.

Salem University—a NCAA Division II team out of the ECAC conference—open their season today against Savannah State.

ABOUT SAVANNAH STATE BASEBALL
Savannah State baseball first took the field in 1916. For over 50 years, they played mostly club level baseball against semi-pro teams and non-college teams until the program joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in 1969. From 1969-199, the Tigers won over 200 games. The 1976-77 squad won the school's first conference championship, beating Bethune-Cookman for the SIAC baseball title. The Tigers won five consecutive SIAC Championships from 1995-1999. In 2013, after elevating to NCAA Division I, Savannah State baseball won the school's first Division I title, beating Bethune-Cookman in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship. Several Tigers have been drafted to play Major League Baseball.
