SCOUTING REPORT | SAVANNAH STATE
Savannah State returns several key players this season. Outfielder Joseph Smith, shortstop Philip Woullard, Jr. and outfielder Dwayne Franklin will be starting assets coming into the season. Franklin led the hitting for the Tigers last season with a .410 batting average. Woullard hit .302 in 2021.

A deep bullpen for the Tigers will be dangerous this year. Heading the rotation is returner Enrico Peele who pitched a 1.80 ERA in 2021. Joining him are newcomers Jose Santiago and Bryan Valdes-Masson. Junior transfer Jared Showalter will get the start in today's game.

ABOUT SAVANNAH STATE BASEBALL
Savannah State baseball first took the field in 1916. For over 50 years, they played mostly club level baseball against semi-pro teams and non-college teams until the program joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in 1969. From 1969-199, the Tigers won over 200 games. The 1976-77 squad won the school's first conference championship, beating Bethune-Cookman for the SIAC baseball title. The Tigers won five consecutive SIAC Championships from 1995-1999. In 2013, after elevating to NCAA Division I, Savannah State baseball won the school's first Division I title, beating Bethune-Cookman in the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship. Several Tigers have been drafted to play Major League Baseball.
