Lady Tigers Open 2021 Season Even At 2-2; Start Conference Play On Friday

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah State volleyball is looking to compete in the 2021 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship this November.

Prior to conference play, the Lady Tigers have opened the season with a 2-2 record. Fielding only three seniors, the young and energetic team are learning their new roles.

The Lady Tigers opened up the season with a home match against Brewton-Parker College and earned a quick 3-0 win to start the season on Sept. 9 in Tiger Arena.

Fifth year senior Jedaiah Daniels led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills during the contest. Redshirt freshman Sydney Harvile ended the contest with 20 assists and true freshman Kloe Ludy was a killer on defense with 16 digs.

For their first road trip, the Lady Tigers traveled to Brunswick, Ga. to compete in a tri-match at the College of Coastal Georgia. In the day's opening match, Savannah State fell to the undefeated host, Coastal Georgia, 0-3, dropping sets 15-25, 11-26, and 13-25.

The Lady Tigers could not keep up with Coastal Georgia's high powered offense, led by junior Giovana Larregui Lopez. But in the day's second game, against Wesleyan College, Savannah State made quick work of the match, winning in straight sets (25-19, 25-12, 25-19).

On Tuesday, Savannah State got a rematch with Coastal Georgia, but the game echoed their first meeting. The Mairners picked up their 13th consecutive win of the season in straight sets, 25-9, 25-15 and 25-11.

The Lady Tigers open a rigorus SIAC schedule on Friday, Sept. 17 against Fort Valley State in Tiger Arena. First serve is set for 6 p.m. The game will streamed live on FloSports.com.
