Track & Field Tigers Close Spring Season With First Place Finishes On Home Turf

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State men's and women's track & field closed out the season on Friday with a one final home meet, hosting six teams in 38 events at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
 
Savannah State finished second overall in both men's and women's scoring competition. The Tigers finished with 181 team points. Fort Valley State won the men's side with 210 points. Albany State finished third with 67 points followed by USC-Beaufort (41) and Morris (40).
 
The Lady Tigers finished with 151 points behind Fort Valley State (220). USC-Beaufort (99) finished third followed by Albany State (78) and Wesleyan (13).
 
Darryl Wiltz led the Tigers on the track. He finished first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.12, followed by teammate Anthony Tuggle who finished second with a 15.76. Wiltz also won the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.81. Tuggle ran a 58.78 in the event to finish in third.
 
Joseph Bell won the 200m dash with a time of 22.53, followed by Anthony Johnson who finished in fourth with a time of 23.32. Djangmah Narhmartey won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.52.
 
Tracy White won the 100m dash with a time of 11.17, followed by Bell (11.22), Johnson (11.38) and Solomon Mitchell (11.56). Andre Valcin won the 400m dash with a time of 49.87.
 
Two Savannah State men's relay teams won their events. The team of Valcin, Bell, Wiltz, and White ran a 3:33.31 in the 4x400 to win. In the 4x100, Anthony Johnson, Bell, Jordan Davis and White won with a time of 42.78.
 
Cameron McClendon finished second in the 1500m race with a time of 4:33.47, followed closely by teammate Erik Robert (4:36.49). In field events, Mitchell finished second in the long jump with a 6.27m effort. Ihsan Muhammad finished fifth in the discus throw with a 29.83 toss.

Kayla Chance, who set the school record earlier this season in the 1500m run, won the event on Friday with a time of 4:54.16. Senior Karen Perez finished fifth in the event with a 6:09.08. Chance won the 800m run as well on Friday with a time of 2:20.26.
 
Sadrea Mabry won the 100m dash with a time of 12.97, followed by teammate Ravyn Cystrunk (13.29). Freshman Artexis Drake finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 25.78, followed by Cystrunk (26.46). Drake also finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 58.90.
 
The Lady Tiger relay teams did quite well, winning two events on the day. The 4x400 team of Jaylen Sewell, Drake, Simone Johnson and Cystrunk won the event with a 4:20.46. The team of Teauna Thomas, Cystrunk, Mabry and Jahvene Walder won the 4x100 with a time of 47.61.
 
In field events, Mabry led the Lady Tigers, winning the long jump with a 5.64m effort followed by Toni Pellington (5.31m) and Johnson (5.29m). Walder finished in second place finish in the high jump with a 1.64m effort followed by Sewell, who finished third with a 1.52m jump.
