BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Savannah State men's basketball dropped a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) inter-divisional game to Miles College, 65-53, on Saturday at the brand new Legacy Arena during the second game of the 2021 Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Classic.

The Tigers fall to 3-6 on the season and 2-2 in SIAC action. Savannah State sits in third place in the SIAC East Division standings, behind Morehouse and Benedict who leads the division with a 6-0 SIAC record. Miles improved to 7-3 with the win and 4-1 SIAC mark, holding onto first place in the SIAC West Division.

Miles picked up an early 7-2 lead in Saturday's game. At the 12:28 mark, Ayjay Plain dropped a field goal to cut Miles' lead to 10-8. But the Golden Bears responded with an 11-0 run over the following three minutes to push out to a double-digit lead.

With three minutes ticking away in the opening half, Justice Stanley dropped a field goal and followed it with two good free throws to open an 8-0 run for Savannah State cutting Miles' lead to low single digits into the half at 31-26.

A slow scoring start to the second half kept the game close. Midway through, Stanley made two free throws to cut Miles' lead to 40-37. But the Golden Bears responded quickly with a 15-5 run down the stretch to extend their lead to 55-42. The Tigers were unable to cut down the double-digit lead in the final three minutes.

Trey DeLoach led the Tigers with 10 points. Daryl Richardson and Stanley each put away nine points in the loss.
