Tigers Drop Road Game To Coastal Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Savannah State started out strong against Coastal Georgia on Monday, but couldn't hold out for the win, falling 59-67.

The Tigers are still in the search of a win this season, falling to 0-3 with Monday's loss.

Savannah State opened with a 6-2 run capped by a jump shot from Daryl Richardson at the 17:37 mark of the first half. But the Mariners battled back into it, tying the game three minutes later. The Tigers broke the tie with a short run for an 11-8 lead. The Mariners answered with a run of their own taking a 15-11 lead behind two good free throws at the 10:09 mark.

Coastal Georgia didn't give up their lead, going into the locker room with a 35-29 advantage.

Savannah State battled in the second half, keeping the score close, but struggled to regain the lead. Two good free-throws from the Mariners at the 2:27 mark gave them a 63-53 advantage and essentially put the nail in the coffin for the Tigers.

Richardson led the scoring for the Tigers with season-high 17 points. Trey DeLoach tacked on 16 of his own and Andrew Okorodudu recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds and 11 points.

The Tigers will play their first home game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 27 against Claflin. Tip-off is set for 20 minutes after the Lady Tigers finish their 1 p.m. game against Claflin. Tickets for the doubleheader are on sale at ssuathletics.com/tickets.
