Lady Tigers Drop Road Match To Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.— Savannah State volleyball dropped a non-conference match to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) provisional member Edward Waters on Monday.

The Lady Tigers move to 8-11 on the season. Their 5-7 SIAC record remains intact ahead of the final four games of the regular season. They have one more non-conference match, Nov. 5 against SIAC provisional member Allen University, before two road SIAC matches against Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta. Savannah State concludes the season on Nov. 12 in Savannah against Albany State.

Savannah State is currently in fourth place in the SIAC East Division standings. A win against Fort Valley State will secure a place in the 2021 SIAC Women's Volleyball Championship, set for Nov. 15-18 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

On Monday, the first set was dominated by Edwards Waters as they started off with 14 kills. The home team pushed out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-14 set win.

In the second set, Savannah State was down early 6-13. A couple of Edward Waters' errors opened some momentum for the Lady Tigers. Jeilynn Brown recorded a service ace and Jedaiah Daniels registered a kill to cut the home team's lead to 11-16.

Down the stretch, the Lady Tigers inched closer to taking the lead, including a 5-1 run, but fell short in the final three points to fall 21-25 to Edward Waters.

The Lady Tigers lost the final set 16-25. After a back and forth battle with Edward Waters to open the set, the home team sprinted to the end with a big run. Edward Waters improved to 18-7 on the season with the win.

First serve against Allen University on Friday is set for 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
