Lady Tigers Win Non-conference Battle With Allen

Columbia. S.C.—Savannah State volleyball traveled to Columbia, South Carolina on Thursday evening to compete against Allen University.

The Lady Tigers dominated the non-conference match, winning all three sets to move to 7-7 overall this season. Allen University is a provisional member in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

During the first set, freshman, Jasmine Nettles led her team with five kills to set the pace of the game en-route to a 25-21 win.

Momentum was high and the second set was a lot like the first with Destiny Gaines sparking up three kills and three attacks. The Lady Tigers sealed up a quick 25-11 win for a 2-0 lead.

On the third and final set Imani Williamson, Jeilynn Brown, Destinee Langston, and Jasmine Nettles combined for 10 kills. The Lady Tigers led for most of the final set, but Allen put together a late rally. Savannah State held on for the 25-21 set win and 3-0 match victory.

The Lady Tigers will be back in Columbia for their next game on Oct. 13, as they face Benedict College in a key SIAC match. Savannah State is 4-5 in conference action this season. They are currently in fourth place in the SIAC East behind Clark Atlanta (5-4), Benedict (5-3) and Albany State (6-3).
