Lady Tigers Drop Hard-Fought Match To Benedict

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Nearing the end of regular season volleyball, Savannah State met Benedict College at home on Wednesday in an important Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) match.

Down 2-0 in the match and 9-17 late in the final set, the Lady Tigers mounted a fierce rally. Savannah State cut Benedict's lead to 20-21 on a service ace from senior Imani Williamsons that capped a 12-3 run.

For the final four points of the match, Benedict took advantage of an SSU error and tacked on three consecutive kills on serves from Kaiah Green for the 25-20 set win and 3-0 match win. Benedict won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-17.

Williamson led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills on the night and 9 digs. Jasmine Nettles added 8 kills and Jedaiah Daniels registered 6 kills. Libero, Kloe Ludy led in digs with 29.

The tough loss, moves Savannah State to 8-9 overall this season and 5-7 in SIAC action. Benedict improves to 13-8 and 7-5 and holds onto their second place standings in the SIAC East Division. They trail Albany State (9-2). The Lady Tigers are in fourth place with Clark Atlanta (6-5) sitting between them and Benedict.

Savannah State has three more SIAC games this season before the 2021 SIAC Championship in mid-November. They will face Fort Valley State, Clark Atlanta and Albany State to conclude the regular season conference schedule. The top four teams from each division will go to the SIAC Championship.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Oct. 27 with a home, non-conference game against Edward Waters. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
