Newbill Named SIAC Defensive Player Of The Week

ATLANTA Ga. – Savannah State defensive end Makenly Newbill has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Defensive Player Of The Week, according to a press release from the conference office on Monday.
 
Newbill was a force during Savannah State's homecoming win over Clark Atlanta this week, registering 5 tackles, 3 for a loss and 1 sack. The Savannah State defense held the Panthers to only two touchdowns en-route to a 49-14 win. Newbill has 17 tackles on the season and 3 sacks.
 
The 6-1, 4-0 Savannah State Tigers will travel to face the 6-1, 3-0 Albany State Rams this Saturday in an SIAC East Division showdown. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Visit ssuathletics.com for more information.
