Lady Tigers Pick Up Key SIAC Win Over Clark Atlanta

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State women's volleyball picked up a key Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) win on Friday night, blanking Clark Atlanta 3-0 in Wilcox-Willey Gym.

The Lady Tigers are currently ranked fourth in the SIAC East Division, moving to 5-6 with the win and 8-8 overall this season. They trail Clark Atlanta (7-5), Benedict (6-3) and Albany State (7-3). The top four teams from the East Division will go to the 2021 SIAC Championship in mid-November.

Clark Atlanta came out firing in the opening set of Friday's game with a very fast 7-3 run. But the Lady Tigers regrouped and tied the game at 11 all behind a kill from Jedaiah Daniels. The Panthers and Lady Tigers traded point-for-point down the stretch.

Later, Imani Williamson notched a kill to lift Savannah State to a 23-20 lead, but a service error on the next serve gave Clark Atlanta another chance. Williamson and Daniels collected back-to-back kills to give the Lady Tigers a 25-21 set victory in the hard-fought game.

The second set mirrored the first, coming down to the wire. Tied at 23 all, Jeilynn Brown recorded a kill to give the Lady Tigers a 24-23 advantage. A bad set from Makayla Murphy on a serve from Brown gave Savannah State the 25-23 win and 2-0 match lead.

In the final set, the Lady Tigers and Panthers again traded point-for-point through most of the game. Imani Cook lifted Savannah State to a 23-21 lead with a kill. Freshmen Jasmine Nettles stepped up for Savannah State in the end, recording two kills for the 25-23 win.

Nettles led the entire field with 13 kills on the night. Kloe Ludy led the Lady Tigers in digs with 13. Williamson finished with 7 kills and 6 digs. Savannah State gradually improved their hitting percentage from 66% in the opening set to 73% in the third set.

Savannah State faces a tough Benedict team in their next game. They host the SIAC East Division Rivals on Oct. 19 in Tiger Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
