SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah State won 2-of-3 games over visiting Davis and Elkins University last weekend at Tiger Field.

The Tigers, now 6-8 overall, won Game 1 over the Senators by a score of 5-1 on Friday, Mar. 6 behind starting pitcher
Jackson Hickox's solid performance on the mound.Â

In Saturday's doubleheader, the Senators (4-4) even the series with their 5-2 win in the 1 p.m. contest before the Tigers bounced back in a big way and won the rubber game, 8-7.

Savannah State has won back-to-back weekend series, and five of six games overall.

Cameron Diaz was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Player of the Week for his efforts in the SSU series win. The redshirt freshman was an eye-opening 6-for-10 over the weekend.

Hickox (2-2) went 5.3 innings in game one, allowing one run while striking out four and scattering seven hits to earn the win.
Christian Harkey took over for Hickox and in relief and struck out two across two scoreless innings of work.Â

At the dish,
Andrai Wright had two hits and a pair of runs batted in from the cleanup spot and the Tiger offense got hits from each of its first four batters in the lineup.

In game two, Davis and Elkins secured the win in a tight game for most of the way. The Tigers pulled within one run at 3-2 in the fifth inning but a pair of insurance runs from the Senators in the seventh pushed the margin to three.
Luis Lamarche led SSU at the plate with three hits in the setback.

The series finale was a thriller as the Senators took an early 2-0 lead in the first, but the Tigers responded by scoring five in the following frame. It was 7-2 in favor of SSU after three innings and the Tiger Bullpen was able to hang on to secure the victory.

Max Tracey each had two hits to lead coach
Carlton Hardy's club in the series deciding game and
Rahmir Vaughn earned his third save of the season, striking out four of the five batters he faced.
