SAVANNAH, Ga. – After trailing for the opening five innings, Savannah State baseball rallied late at the plate to secure an 8-3 victory over the University of South Carolina Beaufort on Tuesday.
Â
The Tigers scattered 10 hits over the nine-inning joust, but it was their effort in the final four innings that secured the win. Trailing 1-2 into the bottom of the sixth, Savannah State made a late rally deep into the inning.
Â
With two outs showing,
Luis Lamarche got things going with a single to center.
Andrai Wright followed with a single of his own to put two runners on and set up senior
Turner Davis. Davis blasted a single to right, scoring Wright and Lamarche and lifting the Tigers to a 3-2 lead.
Â
Champion Robbins, pinch hitting for
Yan Mastin, singled as well, scoring Davis to extend the Tigers lead. The Sand Sharks responded with a single run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Savannah State tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final five-point advantage.
Â
The Tiger bullpen held the visitors to only two hits in the final five innings to secure the win. Starter
Joey Roberson pitched a full three innings for Savannah State, allowing two earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Ben Botham pitched one inning in relief for the Tigers, successfully.
Â
But it was
Matthew Henderson's work through the fifth and sixth innings that earned him his second pitching win this season. Henderson allowed no earned runs on a single hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Â
Tristan Bourne pitched the seventh for the Tigers, allowing one earned run on one hit with one walk.
Christian Harkey though was clutch for Savannah State in the final two innings. Harkey earned his first save of the season allowing no runs on no hits with one walk and a game-high three strikeouts.
Â

Â
At the plate, the Tigers were led by Lamarche who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Wright went 2-for-3 with one RIB. Derek Riveria, Davis, Phillip Woullard, Jr and
