Tigers break hot streak with loss to Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. –  Savannah State men's basketball broke a four-game winning streak on Saturday with a 57-72 loss to Albany State.
 
The Tigers fall to 5-9 overall and 5-6 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action. Albany State improved to 13-9 overall and 10-3 in conference play. The Golden Rams are currently in first place in the SIAC East Division standings. SSU is in fourth with Clark Atlanta and Morehouse sitting between them and Albany State.
 
The Tigers were led by Adrian Bonds in the loss who put up 13 points. Bonds leads the team overall this season, averaging  18.8 points a game. Amaru Bryant had a strong outing as well in the loss, racking up 12 points. Bryant hasn't had a double-digit game since the Dec. 14 loss to LeMoyne-Owens.
 
Andrew Okorodudu added 10 points for SSU with five rebounds. He leads the team on defense this season, averaging 7.6 boards a game. SSU shot 44.2% from the floor, but only picked up 17 rebounds to Albany State's 36.
 
Midway through the opening half, Albany State had a one-point lead on SSU as the teams battled back and forth. The Golden Rams extend that lead behind an 11-2 run down the stretch. At the half, they led the Tigers 43-35.
 
Albany State was in full control through the second half, going up by as much as 16 points. They were led by Mario Young (14 points) and Joshua Jermoe (13 points) in the win. The Golden Rams shot 50.8% from the field on the night.
 
Savannah State will battle Morehouse in back-to-back games this coming week. They head to Atlanta on Monday to face the Maroon Tigers at 7:30 p.m. They host Morehouse next Saturday, Feb. 8, in Tiger Arena at 3:30 p.m.
