ATLANTA, Ga. – Monday night's Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) battle in Atlanta between Savannah State men's basketball and Morehouse College came down to the last three minutes.
 
Adrian Bonds drained a layup with 3:09 on the clock to lift SSU to a 59-58 lead. The Maroon Tigers, however responded in kind to regain the lead seconds later. Trey DeLoach sank a good free-throw to tie the game with 2:36 to play.
 
With 1:09 ticking away, Marcus Scott tied the game yet again with a good layup. But Xavier Brewer responded with a good 3-pointer to lift the home team to a slight advantage with 33 seconds to play. Brewer added two good free-throws at the last second to notch the final score.
 
Scott led the entire field with 20 points on the night, hitting 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. The freshman went 3-for-4 at the free-throw line in one of his best shooting efforts of the season.
 
Bonds, who leads the Tigers in scoring this season, added 19 of his own in the close loss. He hit 7-of-11 attempts from the field and 4-of-5 3-pointers. The Tigers shot 41.5% from the field, 36.4% from the 3-point line and 62.5% from the free-throw line.
 
Brewer led Morehouse with 18 points on the night. The Maroon Tigers shot 45.6% from the field and 41.2% from the 3-point line.
 
Savannah State and Morehouse will get a quick rematch when the Maroon Tigers travel to Savannah this Saturday for a 3 p.m. game in Tiger Arena.
