Savannah State Tops NCCU 4-1

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Joseph Roberson hit a home run and scored twice to help Savannah State defeat North Carolina Central 4-1 in a game played at Tiger Field.

Roberson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first and scored another run in the seventh inning.

Trey Maslin's RBI single in the top of the first inning gave North Carolina Central the early lead before Roberson homered over the right field fence in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score.

In the third, Taylor Wilkinson led off with a walk and scored following a single by Jalen Atterbury to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Savannah State (4-12-1) finished off the Eagles in the seventh when Roberson drew a walk and reached third on a double by Luis Lamarchel. Roberson scored on a single by Turner Davis and Lamarchel crossed home plate after a Justin Washington reached base on a fielder's choice for a 4-1 advantage.

Both teams left eight runners on base and committed one error each.

SSU had six hits while the Eagles collected seven hits.

Caleb Hill was the winning pitcher, getting three strikeouts in eight innings. Roberson earned the save, striking out one in his only inning on the hill.

Maslin had three hits for NCCU (9-14) while Brenden Bell took the loss on the mound. Bell, who was one of four Eagle pitchers to see action, gave up four hits, two runs and three walks while recording three strikeouts.
