Davis Home Run Lifts SSU Over Eagles

SAVANNAH, Ga.-  Turner Davis' two-run home run in the eighth inning proved to be the game winner as Savannah State defeated North Carolina Central 4-3 in a game played at Tiger Field.

It was the first win for Savannah State since March 2, snapping a eight game losing skid as they improved to 3-12-1.

SSU led 2-1 after three innings of play but North Carolina Central tied the game in the top of the sixth and took a 3-2 lead in the seventh.

Jalen Atterbury led off the bottom of the eighth with a ground-out and Joey Roberson flied out for the second out. Luis Lamarchel drew a walk and Davis stepped to the plate and hit his third homer of the season over the left field wall for a 4-3 advantage.

NCCU had the bases loaded in the ninth but failed to score a run.

Savannah State took a 2-0 in the first inning.

Atterbury led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Davis. Roberson, who drew a walk, scored when Garrett Bogart reached base thanks to an error by the Eagles short stop.

North Carolina Central cut their deficit in half in the third inning when Carter Williams hit a RBI single.

Davis had three RBI for the Tigers and Atterbury had a pair of hits.
