ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State senior Abbas Abbkar was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Male Runner of the Week, according to a press release from the league office Wednesday morning.

Abbkar finished second overall in the Charleston Classic this last weekend, with a time of 27:02.34, averaging 5.26 a mile. He was bested only by College Charleston's Hayden Dibona (26:28). The Tigers finished third overall in the 8k with a team time of 2:29.02.

Dawnel Collymore of Benedict College was named the SIAC Female Runner ofthe Week after helping Benedict to a fourth-place finish at the HBCU Challenge. She finished the 5k with a time of 19:03.3.

Savannah State men's and women's cross country return to action on Oct. 11 in Salisbury, N.C. at the Livingstone Invitational. They close out the regular season on Oct. 19 in Bluffton, S.C. at the USCB Sand Shark Invitational.
