SAVANNAH, Ga., - The Savannah State women's volleyball team defeated the Norfolk State Spartans 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-21) Saturday in their final match of the Colonial Classic Tournament.

Sophomore setter
Salma Mia Gonzalez Sosa recorded the first triple-double in Savannah State Division I history (11 kills, 12 assists, 11 digs) to lead the Lady Tigers. The 11 kills is also a new career-high for Gonzalez.

Oneillia Fuller and
Tyran Chenault combined to collect another 15 kills for the team, while freshman setter
Ashley Jordan and freshman middle blocker
Norian Ceballos Plaza each recorded five kills.

SSU opened the first set taking an early 5-1 advantage, but the Spartans remained poised and went on 14-9 scoring run to take a 15-14 lead. The Lady Tigers responded by scoring 11 of the next 17 points to win the set and take a 1-0 lead.

The second set was a back-and-forth between both teams early on as there was an early tie at 10. From that point, Savannah State outscored the Spartans 15-8 to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set saw both teams exchange leads in the beginning of the set as SSU took a 4-2 lead only to have Norfolk State respond by going on an 8-5 run to take a 10-9 advantage. With the set tied at 13, the Lady Tigers scored 12 of the next 17 points to win the set and game.

The Spartans were led by Anna Rupertova who recorded 16 kills and seven digs.

The Lady Tigers return to game action on Friday, Sept. 14, when they will take on the Georgia Southern Eagles in their match of the GATA Challenge tournament. Game time begins at Noon.
