Tigers Lose Doubleheader to Bethune-Cookman

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State saw their losing skid stretch to six games after dropping a doubleheader to Bethune-Cookman at Tiger Field, despite a good effort at the plate by Khalyd Cox who ended the day with four hits.
The Tigers lost the first game 7-6 and were shut out in the second game 6-0.
In the first game, Bethune-Cookman scored twice in the first inning to take the early lead.
SSU had six hits in the bottom of the second inning and scored three times to take the lead as Cox, Garret Bogart and Mason Calloway all hit RBI singles.
Bryce Luken led off the fifth with a single up the middle and scored on a passed ball to give Savannah State a 4-2 advantage. In the sixth, Luken hit a RBI single that scored Calloway to extend the Tigers lead to 5-2.
The Wildcats would respond with runs in the next two innings. B-CU scored three runs off four hits in the seventh while a two-run home run by Danny Rodriguez in the eighth would allow them to pull ahead.
SSU had runners in scoring position in the final three innings but failed to score.
Kyle Gerdts went 4 for 4 at the plate for the Tigers while Calloway, Luken and Cox all had three hits and Bogart had two hits.
Paul Sheffield, who gave up four hits and two runs in the final 2.1 innings, took the loss.
The Tigers ended the game with 17 hits while leaving 15 men on base and making two errors.
Joseph Fernando had three hits for B-CU while Ivan Coutinho earned the win. Countinho pitched three innings and gave up four hits, one run and two walks while recording five strikeouts.
Bethune-Cookman had 13 hits band left 12 men on base.
 
The second game was a pitcher's dual until the seventh when the Wildcats sent six runners across home plate. B-CU had five hits in the seventh while Savannah State (5-20 ,2-9 MEAC) made two errors. Giovany Lorenzo and Fernando both had two-run triples in the inning.

Anthony Maldonado pitched a three hitter for the Wildcats, striking out three batters to pick up the win. Zach Spivey and Adonis Lao both had two hits for B-CU.
The Wildcats (12-19, 6-5 MEAC) had nine hits and left six men on base.

Noah Orlando, Gerdts and Cox all had singles for Savannah State who stranded five runners on base.
Alex Wright was tagged with the loss. Wright pitched 6.1 innings while surrendering eight hits, five runs and two walks while collecting five strikeouts.
