Wildcats Defeat SSU in Series Finale

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State wrapped up their seven game home stand with a 9-5 loss to Bethune-Cookman, in a game played at Tiger Field.
 
Bethune-Cookman jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first inning, one in the second and two more in the third.
 
The Tigers struck for four runs in the bottom of the third. Turner Davis led off with a single and later scored on a throwing error by the shortstop while Freddie Landers cleared the bases with a three-run double to right field that scored Noah Orlando, Kyle Gerdts and Bryce Luken to make the score 6-4.
 
The Wildcats added to their lead with one run in the fourth and two in the sixth for a 9-4 cushion.
 
In the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Savannah State (5-21, 2-10 MEAC) loaded the bases. Luken singled while Landers and Khalyd Cox drew walks. Following a pitching change, Marcus Mitchell drew a walk which allowed Luken to score. However, the next batter grounded out to end the inning and the scoring threat.
 
SSU, which lost their seventh game in a row, had eight hits and left 11 men on base while committing one error.
 
Luis Torres-Lopez took the loss. Torres-Lopez pitched 2.2 innings and gave up eight hits, six runs and two walks.
 
At the plate, Landers drove in three runs while Luken scored twice. Luken, Mason Calloway, Landers and Davis all had two hits apiece.
 
B-CU ended the afternoon with 17 hits while leaving nine men on base and making two errors.
 
Jordan Pinto was the winning pitcher. Pinto struck out three while giving up four walks, two hits and one run in 3.2 innings.
 
Nate Sterijevski had four hits for the Wildcats (13-19, 7-5 MEAC) while Joseph Fernando drove in three runs.
