Tigers Lose at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga.- Savannah State closed out their five game road swing with a 9-5 non-conference loss to Georgia State, in a game played at the GSU Baseball Complex.
 
The loss dropped SSU's record to 5-26 as they lost their 12th game in a row.
 
Savannah State loaded the bases in the first inning and was able to send one runner across home plate.
 
Freddie Landers singled up the middle and advanced to second after a single by Bryce Luken. A walk to Jalen Atterbury loaded the bases and Landers scored on a walk to Khalyd Cox for a 1-0 lead.
 
GSU tied the score in the bottom of the inning and added three more runs in the bottom of the second for a 4-1 advantage.
 
In the top of the fourth, Savannah State shortstop Juan Lugo singled through the right side of the infield, advanced to second on a error by the pitcher and made his way to third base on a failed pick off attempt by the Panthers pitcher. Lugo scored on a single by Mason Calloway to slice the Tigers deficit to 4-2.
 
The Panthers would respond with a run in the bottom of the fourth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to extend their lead to 9-2.
 
SSU would rally for three runs in the final two innings but would come up short.
 
In the eighth, Cox hit a RBI double that cut their deficit to six. In the ninth, Yan Mastin drew a walk and Bradley Spencer was hit by a pitch to reach base. Mastin scored on a wild pitch while Spencer scored on a ground-out by Daryl Harper for the final run of the evening.
 
Greg Smith was tagged with the loss. Smith lasted two innings on the mound, giving up four runs, three walks and three hits while recording three strikeouts.
 
Luken had three hits for the Tigers while Cox drove in two runs.
 
Savannah State had ten hits in the game, made two errors and left eight men on base.
 
Tanner Thomson was the winning pitcher. In his three innings, Thomson struck out five while surrendering four hits, two walks and one run.
 
Kendall Ford went 5 for 5 at the plate for the Panthers (20-20).

GSU had 14 hits, left eight men on base and made one error.
