MACON, Ga.- Mercer defeated Savannah State 10-1 in a game played at Ortho Georgia Park.
The Tigers (3-9) scored their lone run in the top of the ninth.
Mason Calloway reached base on a fielding error by the second baseman and stole second base. Calloway advanced to third on a ground-out by Bryce Luke and scored when
Freddie Landers singled to left field.
Savannah State, who has not beaten Mercer since 2010, only had one hit on the day, left four men on base and made one error.
Trevor McKenna was tagged with the loss. McKenna struck out seven batters for SSU while surrendering three hits, two runs and one walk in his four innings on the mound.
Luis Torres-Lopez, Tyler Robinson and Greg Smith also saw action in relief for the Tigers.
Mercer (11-3) scored once in the second and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead but added three runs in the sixth and seventh innings and two more in the bottom of the eighth for a 10-0 advantage.
RJ Yeager drove in three runs for the Bears while Sawyer Gibson-Long pitched a complete game and struck out 10 batters while issuing three walks, one hit and one run.
Mercer had 13 hits in the game, made one error and stranded 12 runners on base.
