Marcus Mitchell drove in a pair of runs but it would not be enough as Savannah State lost to Florida A&M 6-4 in a game played at Tiger Field.

With the win, FAMU takes the weekend series against the Tigers.

The loss drops SSU to 4-12 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

John Capra hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to put the Rattlers ahead 1-0 but SSU answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs.

Freddie Landers reached base on a throwing error by the FAMU third baseman and scored on a double by Bryce Luke. With the bases loaded, Mitchell drew a walk which allowed Luke to score to give the Tigers the lead.

FAMU went ahead 4-2 with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Savannah State sliced their deficit to one in the bottom of the inning.
Khalyd Cox doubled to left field and scored when
Noah Orlando singled to right field to make the score 4-3.

Capra led off the eighth with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ty Russ to put the Rattlers ahead 5-3.

Not to be denied, SSU struck back as Cox drew a walk, stole second and scored on a single by Mitchell to pull the Tigers within 5-4.

FAMU added a run in the top of the ninth for a 6-4 lead.
Savannah State had the bases loaded in their turn at bat but were unable to score. With two outs, Landers was hit by a pitch, Luke drew a walk and
Jalen Atterbury was hit by a pitch to load the base-pads but Cox struck out to end the game.

The Tigers had seven hits and made one error on the day while leaving 11 runners on base.

Luke, Cox and
Kyle Gerdts all hit doubles for SSU.

Caleb Hill pitched 6.2 innings for SSU, giving up seven hits, four runs and two walks while striking out three. Greg Smith pitched 2.1 innings in relief and surrendered two runs and two hits.

FAMU (11-13, 4-2 MEAC) made four errors in the game but collected nine hits while leaving eight men on base.

Capra had two hits and scored twice for the Rattlers.

Ryan Anderson was the winning pitcher while Dylan Carlson earned the save. Anderson pitched 4.1 innings and struck out four batters while giving up four hits, three walks and two runs. Carlson pitched one inning and issued one walk while striking out one.
