Fenner Nets 46 to Lead Tigers Over Morgan State

SAVANNAH, Ga.-Alante Fenner scored a career-high 46 points to lead Savannah State to a 97-94 overtime victory over visiting Morgan State.

The last SSU player to score at least 40 points in a game was Troyce Manassa, who scored 42 points against South Carolina State on March 2, 2017.

The Tiger Arena crowd of 2,901 saw SSU win their eighth game in a row to improve to 12-13 overall and 9-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The last time Savannah State lost a game, it was a 89-88 setback from Morgan State on January 8, 2018.

In the extra period, SSU trailed 94-92 after the Bears' Tiwian Kendley made a layup with 1:49 left.

The Tigers finished the game with five unanswered points with Jahir Cabeza and Khalen Pinkett making layups and Dexter McClanahan adding a free throw with 2.1 seconds remaining.

Cabeza blocked a shot by Morgan State's Phillip Carr with one second left to seal the win.

Fenner finished the contest making 12 of 24 shots from the field and draining six 3-pointers. The Lake Wales, Florida native also made 16 of 17 free throw attempts and had seven rebounds.

McClanahan added 15 points and five assists. Reserves Javaris Jenkins scored 11 and Cabeza chipped in 11.

In the first period, the score was tied at 16 but the Bears went on a 14-1 run which resulted in their largest lead of the contest at 30-17 with 9:56 left.

The Tigers battled back to tie the game at 43 with 3:15 showing after a 3-pointer by Cabeza.

Morgan State went into the half with a 54-51 edge.

The second half was just as tight as the first with no team leading by more than four points.

The Bears led 88-84 with 2:17 left but four free throws by Fenner tied the game at 88 with 1:31 on the clock.

Morgan State went ahead 89-88 with 31 seconds left after a free throw by Martez Cameron.

Fenner tied the game at 89 with a free throw with 11.4 seconds left. After a steal, Fenner drove the ball down-court but missed a layup at the buzzer which forced overtime.

The game had ten ties and nine lead changes.

Savannah State shot 38.2 percent from the field, made 23.9 percent of their 3-point shots and made 87.5 percent of their free throw attempts.

Kendley led MSU with 24 points while Carr added 21 points and 15 rebounds. The bears out-rebounded Savannah State 53 to 44.

Morgan State (9-15, 5-6 MEAC) shot 43.2 percent from the floor, 26.3 percent from beyond the arc and 76 percent from the free throw line.
