Tigers Win Streak Reaches Nine

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Javaris Jenkins scored 21 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots to lead Savannah State to a 108-106 win over North Carolina A&T, in a game played at Tiger Arena.

The victory was the Tigers ninth in a row and their 10th in 11 games. It was also SSU's eighth time scoring at least 100 points in a game.

Savannah State junior guard Dexter McClanahan entered the contest with 994 career points. McClanahan scored five points in the first half and his layup at the 19:05 mark of the second period gave him 1001.

The Stockbridge, Georgia native finished the game with 18 points and now has 1,012 career points.

The last SSU player to score 1,000 career points was Preston Blackman, who did it during the 2012-13 season.

McClanahan made two 3-pointers, giving him 142 for his career, moving him into a tie for fourth place overall with Toyian Williams.

The Tigers led by as many as 15 points in the first half and took a 55-44 cushion into intermission.

North Carolina A&T (15-11, 8-3 MEAC) kept chipping away at the SSU lead and tied the game at 78 with 9:42 remaining after a pair of free throws by Raymon Pratt.

The Aggies led 93-89 with 6:20 left but SSU answered with a free throw by Alante Fenner and a layup by Khalen Pinkett to tie the game at 93.

With the game tied at 101 with 2:34 showing, layups by Ty'lik Evans and Zach Sellers and a dunk by the 6-foot-1 Pinkett for a 107-101 lead.

N.C. A&T would not go away as Devonte Boykins answered with two free throws and a 3-pointer to pull the visitors within 107-106 with 14 seconds left.

A free throw by Fenner, who ended the game with 17 points, put the Tigers ahead by two with 12 seconds left.

Aaren Edmead went for the game winner for the Aggies but his shot was blocked by Jenkins with 1.9 left to seal the SSU win.

The crowd of 3002 saw Savannah State (13-13, 10-1 MEAC) shoot 52.7 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from beyond the arc and 76.2 percent from the free throw line.

John Grant made four 3-pointers and scored 12 points while Sellers chipped in 10 points and dished out seven assists.

Denzel Keyes had a game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds for N.C. A&T.

The Aggies, who out-rebounded SSU 42 to 38, shot 51.9 percent from the floor, made 42.9 percent of their 3-point shots and 85 percent of their free throw attempts.
