Sellers Leads Tigers in Loss To Kent State

KENT, Ohio - Zach Sellers scored a season-high 22 points for Savannah State in the Tigers 104-84 setback to Kent State in a game played at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

Sellers shot 50 percent from the field and made all six of his free throw attempts in addition to getting five rebounds, two steals and dishing out six assists.

John Grant, Jr. came off the bench to record a double-double for the Tigers with 12 points and 10 rebounds.


Jahlin Smith added 15 points while Jaquan Dotosn scored 13 and Collins Joseph chipped in 10 points.

After three minutes of play, the score was tied 6-6 but Kent State used runs of 15-0 and 11-0 to grab a 35-10 lead with 9:37 left in the first half.

A 7-0 spurt by KSU gave the Flashes a 49-18 advantage with 5:45 remaining but Savannah State (2-4) answered as five different players scored during a 14-5 run that whittled their deficit down to 22 at the 2:03 mark.

Kent State led 63-38 at intermission.

The Flashes started the second period with a 15-5 run to increase their lead to 78-43 with 16:23 left on the clock. They followed that with a 8-1 spurt that gave them their largest lead of the contest at 93-50 at the 10:15 mark.

Savannah State would respond with a 23-6 run that would make the score 99-73 with 4:35 remaining.

Down 104-75 with 3:45 showing, the Tigers would close the game with a 9-0 run.

Antonio Williams had 22 points for Kent State (4-1).


Savannah State shot 45.2 percent from the field in the second half and 39 percent for the game while Kent State shot 48.1 percent from the field for the game.

Kent State edged the Tigers in the rebounding battle 51 to 46.
