LYNCHBURG, Va.-
Romani Hansen came off the bench to score 19 points as Savannah State overcame a 20-point deficit in a 80-75 victory over Alcorn State.
The non-conference game was played at the Vines Center on the campus of Liberty University as part of the Commodore Classic.
Alcorn State scored the first seven points of the contest and then used a 15-2 run to expand their lead to 32-12 with 10:29 left in the first half.
Down 35-15 at the 9:19 mark, SSU used a 21-2 spurt to whittle their deficit to 37-36 with 3:31 showing. During the Tigers run,
Jahlin Smith scored eight points, Hansen had seven while
Tyrell Harper and Zaquavian Smith each had three points.
The Braves led 40-36 at the half.
ASU extended their lead to nine early in the second period but Savannah State pulled within 60-59 with 8:36 left and took their first lead of the game at 63-62 with 6:28 on the clock after a 3-pointer by Hansen.
Savannah State (3-4) led 74-68 with 2:10 left but the Braves sliced their deficit to 77-75 with 46 seconds left. The Tigers finished the game with a trio of free throws by Harper to preserve the win.
Jaquan Dotson added 18 points and six rebounds for the Tigers while
Jahlin Smith chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds and Harper had 11 points and seven rebounds.
SSU out-rebounded Alcorn State 39 to 35 while shooting 41.9 percent from the field.
The Braves (1-5) were led by Deshaw Andrews who had a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. Alcorn State shot 44.4 percent from the field.
