Rosado and Sanford Named to All-Tournament Team; SSU Drops Two Matches

BOCA RATON, Fla.  – Junior outside hitter Jennifer Rosado and freshman outside hitter Brooke Sanford were named to the All-Tournament Team as Savannah State University volleyball team (2-8) dropped both matches Saturday to Stetson University (1-11) 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 20-25) and to North Dakota State University (9-3) 3-0 (13-25, 10-25, 10-25) in FAU Arena at the FAU Invitational.
 
Over the weekend, Sanford led the team with 19 kills and added 16 digs and four assists, while Rosado added 18 kills, seven blocks, three assists and four digs in three matches.
 
Rosado led the Lady Tigers with 13 kills in two matches with a .235 hitting percentage with four digs and four blocks, while senior setter Alee Quint led the team with 24 assists and added nine digs.
 
Freshman libero Leiri Melendez and Sanford led the team with 11 digs each, while Sanford was second on the team with 11 kills in two matches.  Freshman setter Salma Gonzalez added five kills, nine assists and 10 digs, while freshman middle blocker Tyran Chenualt added five kills and four blocks.
 
Stetson 3, Savannah State 0
Rosado led the team with eight kills and added a .333 hitting percentage with two blocks, while Quint led the team with 14 assists and added five digs and Sanford led the team with six digs and added six kills.  Melendez added five digs and Gonzalez added three kills, five digs and five assists.
 
Stetson scored five of the first seven points in the first set to take a three-point lead, 5-2, but the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to tie the set at five.  The Hatters scored the next five points to take a five-point lead, 10-5.  SU outscored SSU 15-9 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 1-0 match lead. 
 
Rosado started the second frame with a kill to give the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 lead, but Stetson scored eight of the next nine points to take a six-point lead, 8-2, forcing a Savannah State timeout.  After the timeout, the Lady Tigers scored the next two points to cut the lead to four points, 8-4, but Stetson scored six of the next eight points to take an eight-point lead, 14-8.  Savannah State scored the next three points to close within five points, 14-9, but SU outscored SSU 9-4 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
With the final frame tied at three, the Lady Tigers scored the next three points to take a three-point, 6-3, but Stetson scored eight of the next 10 points to take a three-point lead, 11-8.  Savannah State scored seven of the next nine points to take a two-point lead, 15-13, but SU outscored SSU 12-5 during the rest of the set to win the set and the match.
 
The Hatters were led by Eva Deisa with nine kills, Naina Ivanova with 31 assists and Chelcie Spence with 10 digs. 
 
North Dakota State 3, Savannah State 0
Rosado and Sanford led the team with five kills each, while Rosado added two blocks, two assists and three digs and Sanford added five digs and two assists.  Quint led the team with 10 assists and added four digs, while Melendez led the team with six digs.  Gonzalez added five digs, four assists and two digs.
 
NDSU scored 15 of the first 20 points to take a 15-point lead, 15-5, but the Lady Tigers scored five of the next seven points to close within seven points, 17-10.  The Bison outscored SSU 8-3 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
The Bison scored 10 of the first 14 points to take a six-point lead in the second stanza, 10-4, but a Lady Tiger point cut the lead to five points, 10-5.  NDSU outscored SSU 15-5 during the rest of the set to win the set and to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
The Lady Tigers score the first two points of the final frame to take a 2-0 lead, but Stetson outscored SSU 25-8 during the rest of the set to win the set and the match.
 
The Bison was led by Bella Lien with 10 kills, Brianna Rasmusson with 30 assists and Abbi Klos with eight digs.
 
The Lady Tigers travel to Charleston, S.C., for a midweek match against The Citadel Tuesday at 6 p.m., before heading north to Virginia for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North/South Challenge.  SSU faces Norfolk State University Friday at 7 p.m. in Norfolk and faces the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 11 a.m. and Hampton University at 4 p.m. Saturday in Virginia Beach.
