Davis Homers In Loss To Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C.- Turner Davis hit a two-run home run for Savannah State but the Tigers would fall 9-2 to Western Carolina in a non-conference contest played at Hennon Stadium.

Davis' blast over the left field fence came in the top of the sixth inning.

Kyle Gerdts led off with a walk and after Bryce Luken flied out to right field, Davis stepped up to the plate to hit his third long ball of the season.

The Tigers ended the game with 10 hits but committed three errors and stranded 10 runners on base.

Jalen Atterbury and Mason Calloway each had two hits for Savannah State (11-29).

Caleb Hill took home the loss. Hill started for SSU and lasted 3.1 innings. He gave up five hits, six runs and two walks while striking out one.

Western Carolina scored twice in the second inning, once in the third and broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Catamounts added their final two runs in the bottom half of the sixth.

Brett Pope had three hits, scored three times and drove in two runs for WCU.Chad Mabini was the winning pitcher. Mabini scattered four hits and struck out two in his four innings on the mound while giving up no runs and issuing one walk.

Western Carolina had 11 hits and left five runners on base.
