SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State scored 10 runs in the second inning and went on to defeat Florida A&M 16-11 in a game played at Tiger Field.
FAMU scored a run in the top of the first inning and added three more in the second for a 4-0 lead.
The Rattlers made three errors in the bottom half of the second as SSU (10-27,2-13) exploded for 10 runs and six hits.
Bryce Luken led off with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Turner Davis. Luken scored when Daryl Harper reached base on a throwing error by the FAMU pitcher. Davis and Harper scored on a single by Bernard Barnes. SSU loaded the bases when Jacob Lightle singled and Jalen Atterbury was hit by a pitch. Khalyd Cox reached on an error which allowed Barnes to score and a wild pitch sent Lightle across home plate. After Kyle Gerdts flied out and Jorge Lopez grounded out, Luken hit a two run single that plated Atterbury and Cox. Davis reached on a throwing error and Harper hit a triple down the right field line that scored Luken and Davis. The final run of the inning came when Barnes singled to right field which allowed Harper to score.
FAMU scored a run in the top of the third to cut their deficit to 10-5 but the Tigers scored twice in the bottom half of the inning as Atterbury reached base on a throwing error and stole home while Gerdts singled to left field and scored when Luken singled to center field for a 12-5 lead.
Both squads sent two runners across home plate in the fourth.
FAMU (21-18,11-7) had four hits and scored twice in the inning while Savannah State got a two run single from Cox that scored Barnes and Atterbury  for a 14-7 advantage.
Lightle and Atterbury scored for SSU in the sixth to increase their lead to 16-7.
Not to give without a fight, FAMU scored three times in the eighth and once in the ninth but could get no closer.
Savannah State finished the game with 12 hits, made three errors and left nine runners on base.
Greg Smith got the start and the win on the mound for SSU. Smith, who was one of six Tiger pitchers to play, went 2.1 innings and gave up four hits, five runs and four walks while striking out one.
Atterbury had two hits and scored four times for SSU, Cox drove in three runs, Davis had two hits and scored twice, Lightle scored twice, Harper drove in two runs and scored twice while Luken and Barnes each had two hits, scored twice and had three RBI.
JoJo Durden took the loss for the Rattlers. Durden lasted just one inning and gave up four hits, seven runs and two walks while striking out one.
Dallas Oliver had three hits and scored three times to lead the FAMU offense.
FAMU finished the game with 10 hits, six errors while stranding 16 men on base.
