SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Brian Davis finished the day with five hits while driving in five runs to lead Florida A&M to a double-header sweep of Savannah State, in games played at Tiger Field.
The Rattlers won the opener 11-1 and completed the sweep with a 4-3 victory in the second game that took extra innings.
Davis had three hits and drove in three runs in the first game and had two hits and two RBI in the nightcap.
In the first game, FAMU scored twice in the second inning, once in the third and five times in the fifth for a 8-0 lead.
The Tigers scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth as
Jalen Atterbury singled up the middle and later scored on a single by
Kyle Gerdts.
Florida A&M added one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Atterbury had two of the five SSU hits.
Trevor McKenna was tagged with the loss. McKenna pitched 4.1 innings and gave up nine hits, six runs and six walks.
The Tigers finished the contest with five hits, no errors while leaving three runners on base.
Willis Daniel had three hits and scored three times for FAMU while Dallas Oliver also had three hits.
Ryan Anderson scattered five hits on the mound while striking out five and surrendering one run in his eight innings.
FAMU had 16 hits, made one error and left 18 men on base.
In the second game, FAMU took the early lead by scoring a run in the top of the second but Savannah State roared back to score three times in the bottom of the third.
The Tigers (10-27, 1-13) loaded the bases with back to back singles by Daryl Harper and Atterbury while
Khalyd Cox drew a walk. Harper scored on a ground-out by Gerdts while Atterbury and Cox scored on a single by
Bryce Luken.
FAMU tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh when Davis hit a two-run single.
In the top of the 10th inning, Garrett Wilkinson doubled, advanced to third on a fly-out by Oliver and scored the wining run on a wild pitch.
Luken had two hits and drove in two runs for SSU while Paul Sheffield took the loss on the mound. Sheffield pitched three innings and gave up two hits and one walk while striking out three.
Savannah State had seven hits but made two errors and left seven men on base.
Wilkinson and Oliver contributed two hits apiece for FAMU. Thomas Nicoll was the winning pitcher. Nicoll pitched four innings while giving up two hits and no runs or walks whilke striking out five.
The Rattlers (21-17, 11-6) had 10 hits, made three errors and left 11 men on base.
