Box Score MACON, Ga.- Savannah State dropped to under .500 for the first time this season after suffering a 12-2 loss to Mercer in a game played at OrthoGeorgia Park.
Mercer scored 11 runs in the first inning but only three were earned.
Savannah State (6-7) scored their runs in the second and seventh innings.
Turner Davis led off the second with a double down the right field line. Davis advanced to third on a ground-out by
Jorge Lopez and scored on a single by
Kyle Gerdts.
In the top of he seventh,
Bryce Luken singled and made his way to third base after the left fielder made an error. Luken scored following aground-out by Davis.
Mercer scored their other run in the fourth inning.
Colby Rhea was tagged with the loss for SSU. Rhea lasted two-thirds of an inning and gave up seven runs, five hits and one walk while getting one strikeout.
Fiver Mercer pitcher held the Tigers to just three hits on the day while striking out 13.
Mercer (10-3) finished the contest with 14 hits while leaving 12 runners on base.
Charlie Madden and Conrad Cornell each had three hits and drove in two runs for the Bears.
Sawyer Gipson-Long was the winning pitcher. Gipson-Long pitched three innings, gave up two hits and one run while striking out three.
Both teams made two errors.
