Ospreys Down Savannah State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Bryce Luken had two hits and drove in two runs but it would not be enough as North Florida defeated Savannah State 7-2 in a non-conference game played at Harmon Stadium.

Chris Berry hit a two-run single for UNF in the bottom of the first inning. The Ospreys would score twice more in the inning for a 4-0 lead

Savannah State was held hitless until the fourth inning. The Tigers would end the inning with two hits and left the bases loaded but was unable to produce any runs.

Wesley Weeks drove in a run for UNF in the third and Alex Merritt hit a two-run single in the fourth to increase their advantage to 7-0.

The Tigers prevented a shutout with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth.

Mason Calloway led off with a single and Jacob Lightle reached base on a error by the second baseman.After Kyle Gerdts grounded out and Hector Benetiz struck out, Luken singled to center field which allowed Calloway and Lightle to score.

SSU had runners in scoring position in the ninth but were unable to score.

The Tigers (9-12) ended the game with six hits while leaving seven men on base.

Benitez added two hits.

Charles Wilson was the losing pitcher. Wilson went two innings and gave up four hits, five runs and four walks while striking out two. 

Yahir Gurrola had three hits for UNF (15-8).

Adam Polansky was the game winning. Polansky pitched six innings and gave up three hits and one walk while striking out three.

The Osprey had 11 hits and stranded eight runners.

Both teams made two errors apiece.
