Women’s Tennis Drops Both Matches Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Savannah State University women's tennis team (0-13) dropped both matches Thursday to James Madison University (9-3) 4-0 and to host University of North Florida (7-6) 7-0.
 
James Madison won the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 position after Timea Guide and Kimmy Herock defeated SSU's doubles duo of senior Sandy Lochu and freshman Lili-Morgan Pastore 6-0 and at the No. 2 doubles position as Jona Roka and Dylan Owens defeated SSU's doubles team of junior Rachida El Kateb and senior Jennyfer Vivas 6-1 and winning at the No. 3 doubles position by default.
 
Roka defeated Vivas 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles position, while Owens defeated senior Bria Burrows 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 singles position and won at the No. 6 singles position by default.
 
With the match clinched the other matches went unfinished.  Pastore was in a tight battle at the No. 3 singles position with Herrock with a 5-5 score when the match was called, while Lochu lost the first set 6-1, but was winning the second set 1-0 to Guibe and El Kateb lost the first set 6-1 and was losing the second set 5-0 to Petersen.
 
North Florida won the doubles point to go up 1-0.  UNF won at the No. 3 doubles position by default and clinched the doubles point after Luise Intert and Quetzali Vazquez defeated SSU's doubles team of Lochu and El Kateb 6-1 and won the final doubles match at the No. 2 position after Rafaela Gomez and Lucia Montano defeated SSU's doubles duo of Pastore and Burrows 6-1.
 
UNF took a 2-0 after winning at the No. 6 singles position by default and took a 3-0 lead after Intert defeated Vivas 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles position.
 
The Ospreys clinched the match after Irina Karangozishvili defeated Burrows 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 singles position for a 4-0 lead and took a 5-0 lead after Vazquez defeated Pastore 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles position.  UNF took a 6-0 lead after Gomez defeated El Kateb 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles position and won the final match as Michelle Valdez defeated Lochu 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position.
 
The Lady Tigers start a three-match homestand starting with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Opponent Norfolk State University Sunday at 1 p.m. at Tiger Tennis Courts for a nonconference battle.
