Fenner Scores 18 In Loss To Wichita State

WICHITA, Ks.- Alante Fenner scored 18 points for Savannah State in a 112-66 setback to 8th ranked Wichita State.
 
Fenner went 6 for 8 at the free throw line and made two 3-pointers.
 
The first 10 minutes of the game was close with four ties and three lead changes.
 
Wichita State led 10-3 but the Tigers rallied with a 14-2 run to take a 17-12 advantage with 12:25 left. During the run, Austin Dasent drilled four straight 3-pointers and John Grant added a jumper.
 
The Shockers tied the game at 17 but Savannah State went ahead after a 3-pointer by Feener for a 20-17 lead.
 
WSU responded with a 17-4 spurt to go ahead by 10 with 5:29 remaining.
 
A 3-pointer by Zach Sellers pulled the Tigers within seven at the 5:07 mark but Wichita State closed the period with a 21-2 run to take a 55-29 lead into the half.
 
Savannah State started the second half with a 19-9 run to close the
ir deficit to 16 with 14:14 left in the contest but WSU dashed any hopes of a Tigers comeback with a 27-2 run that put them ahead 101-56 with 5:04 on the clock.
 
Back to back 3-pointers by Dexter McClanahan and Fenner got the Tigers within 39 but they would get no closer the rest of the night.
 
Dasent added 15 points, making five 3-pointers while McClanahan added 10 points.
 
Jahlin Smith had a team-high six of the Tigers 31 rebounds.
 
SSU (2-6) shot 27.5 percent from the floor, made 23.6 percent of their 3-point shots and converted nine of 18 of their free throw attempts.
 
Samajae Haynes-Jones had a game-high 31 points to lead six Shockers (5-1) in double figures.
 
Wichita State made 53.9 percent of their shots from the field, 41.9 percent of their 3-pointers and 89.5 percent of their free throws. WSU had more rebounds (67) than Savannah State had points.
